WELCOME TO THE GRENFELL FAMILY HISTORY WEBSITE
The purpose of the site is to further interest in the Grenfell family name. In addition the Grenfell name is registered with Guild of One-Name Studies, the objective of which is to research all occurrences of the name GRENFELL and its variants, GRENFIELD, GRINFIELD, GREENFILL, GRINFILL, GRINFIELD, GRANFELL etc.
Beginnings
The study into the Grenfell family name really began in the 1980’s when Alison Stephen in Victoria, Australia and Arthur Coomb in Cornwall, England were carrying out independent research. Alison registered the Grenfell name – No. 1238 – with the Guild of One-Name Studies in 1997 and after meeting in Truro in 1998 they decided to collaborate and pool their resources.
Research and Family Trees
Databases have been compiled to include indexes to Civil Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths, Parish Records of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, Overseas records, the IGI and published indexes of Wills, etc.
